Best Government JOB Websites in Washington State
The internet is by far the largest and best resource in the world for anything. You can literally type in anything you are looking for and within seconds you have pages and pages of information, 24 hours a day, and all for free. Unfortunately, with the ability for anyone to have a website, there is quite a bit of false information out there. If you live in Washington State and you need some information, there are a number of government website you can use. I have compiled a list of the most important and useful websites below.
http://access.wa.gov/ is the official website of Washington State. It contains tons of information about everything in this state. You can find job listings, things to do in Washington, tax information, and countless other helpful databases. This site also contains an A to Z listing of all government sites in Washington State.
One of the best resources I have found is at http://www.esd.wa.gov. This site offers tons of information concerning employment. If you are looking for a job in Washington State, you can post your resume or browse through available jobs on this site. For employers, you can easily find the perfect candidates for your business by visiting this site. The site also has valuable information concerning unemployment, how to apply, what you will receive, and more.
If you have a legal question, you can find your answer at http://www1.leg.wa.gov/LawsAndAgencyRules. This site has a comprehensive list of all the laws and regulations in Washington State. Not only is it useful, it is rather fun to go through and see just how many laws there are. The only downside about this site is that it can be rather hard to find things.
For those with a helpful nature, or those who need help, http://www.resourcehouse.com/en/WA/cgi-bin/location.asp is perfect for you. The site has a large selection of volunteer work that is available in your local area, as well as the option to ask for help. In times of need in Washington, ResourceHouse will organize special volunteer events. Especially in natural disasters (like the recent flood and the flood in 2007), this site delivers. It is very helpful if you want to lend a helpful hand, or you are looking for a helping hand in your time of need.
Another good site is if you are looking to donate your time or money or learn about recent disasters is http://www.emd.wa.gov/. You can find all the resources you need when a natural disaster or other emergency happens. Also, the site has opportunities to donate your money or volunteer your time to help great causes, such as helping the victims of the recent flood.
For those who are moving to Washington, or just visiting, you should check out http://www.experiencewa.com/home.aspx. The site is the tourism department for Washington State, and lists all the great things to do in our wonderful little state. Washington is filled with things to do, but for those who don’t live here; it can be very hard to find things that would interest you. If you are visiting, or even if you live here and are looking for things to do, you should check out this site.
For people looking to enroll in college, http://www.wsu.edu/ is perfect. Wsu.edu is the homepage for the University of Washington, which is considered a top-tier university. You can find information about the school, find contact info, and learn how to apply on this site. WSU is a great college located in Pullman, Washington, that provides superior education for a reasonable tuition. If you are looking to enroll for the first time, or go back to college, check out http://www.wsu.edu/!
Washington State Unemployment Offices
If you have been recently unemployed and money is becoming tight, it is a good idea to apply for unemployment benefits. If you have been laid off due to your employer’s lack of work, you will likely qualify for unemployment checks. The amount you can get varies, but I am sure you know that when you have no cash coming in regularly, any amount helps drastically.
If you are wondering where and how to apply for unemployment, you should visit one of your local state offices, or, http://www.esd.wa.gov/. Personally I recommend going to the website first, but if you would prefer to go to an office, read on.
The state of Washington does not have an entire office dedicated to unemployment. Instead, they have a number of general information offices, and they have a call in center. If you are looking to apply for benefits, file your weekly claims, or ask a question about benefits, you can call 800-318-6022.
You can also visit one of the many WorkSource offices. WorkSource can help you with unemployment, and help you find a new job. Note that in order to apply for unemployment benefits in Washington State you MUST call the TeleCenter at 800-318-6022.

If your county is not listed here, visit https://fortress.wa.gov/esd/worksource/StaticContent.aspx?Context=WSDirectorySeeker. Once there, click on your county on the map and it will give you the office’s address, phone number, and other contact information.
If you are having trouble finding your location, visiting http://www.mapquest.com/ can help tons. MapQuest is a completely free, comprehensive database of directions. From the homepage you can type in your home address and the address you want to reach. You will then receive turn by turn directions to your exact destination, all free of charge! It is a phenomenal resource and you should use it whenever you need to.
I highly recommend visiting http://www.esd.wa.gov/index.php before you do anything else. The website is loaded with very helpful info, including the benefits you will receive when you are on unemployment, how to apply, etc. It also lists quite a few helpful tips on how to get approved, such as what you need to do before applying. You can also learn how much you will be receiving weekly from unemployment benefits. In my opinion using this website is much easier than going to a WorkSource office, especially since you cannot actually apply at the offices.
You can apply online by going directly to: https://fortress.wa.gov/esd/uia/icintro/intropage.aspx?lang=en-us and filling out the required information. This is the fastest and easiest way to apply besides calling the TeleCenter directly at 800-318-6022.
If you don’t want to waste your time, do some research first. Look around the Employment Security Department website and see if you will qualify or not. If you were laid off by your employer in a mass lay off you are pretty much a shoo-in for benefits. However, if you quit or were fired for incompetence, you will most likely not qualify, but you may, so you should still apply.

Employment Security Department of Washington State, or ESD WA, is a very valuable resource for a variety of people who live in, or are planning to move to, the great state of Washington.
For business owners, ESD WA can be used to find quality employees, in virtually any area of work. If you are looking for employees for your local business, there are two basic ways to use ESD WA to your advantage. The first is to post your job opportunity, making it available to the public. By posting a job opportunity, you will enable those looking for work to submit their resumes to you. Alternatively, you can search through resumes to find exactly what you are looking for. There are currently over 92,000 people listed on ESD WA that are eager to work for you. Whether you are looking for employees doing physical labor or more intellectual work, chances are you can find what you are looking for.
For those looking for employment, ESD WA can be a very helpful resource. You can submit your own resume and have employers contacting you, or you can search through the jobs that are currently available, and apply to the ones that interest you. The site also lists upcoming job fairs in your local area, so if you keep your eyes open and check the site often, you can take advantage of some very good opportunities.
Even in tough economic times, there are always companies looking for loyal employees. When the economy changes, certain jobs have a higher demand. For instance, when gas went up drastically a few years ago, the demand for employees in the field of alternative energy research skyrocketed. ESD WA can help you find the jobs that are in demand TODAY, and help you find reliable work.
ESD WA also offers some helpful information concerning job requirements. Everyone wants a high paying job, but it is hard to find a job opportunity that you qualify for. You can learn how to improve your skills while earning money, through on-the-job training, or apprenticeship. This is great for those looking for a career, not just a job.
If you are currently unemployed, you will find all the information you need on ESD WA. You will find information concerning the benefits you can receive from the state if you are unemployed. They will tell you who is eligible for unemployment benefits, and what you can do to apply. You can also find information concerning the actual application process, including the questions you will be required to answer, how to apply, and tracking your applications progress. They will also tell you how much money you will be receiving monthly in benefits, when your checks will come, and other information that is vital to you filing for unemployment.
ESD WA also offers very valuable information concerning taxes. They teach you all you need to know about unemployment taxes, including what exactly you have to pay taxes on. Taxes are incredibly complicated, and very few people fully understand the system. That is why it is important to find a good resource to help you. Tax advisers could help you, but they are very expensive. ESD WA’s information is completely free, and available to anyone with a computer and internet access.
So no matter who you are you will find something helpful on one of Washington’s best information site. If you have yet to check it out, I highly encourage you to do so. Even if you are employed, you could look for a second job, or an entirely new one. ESD WA is also an invaluable resource to those who are currently moving or plan to move to Washington State, as you can easily find jobs and learn the specific regulations that are enforced in this great state.Newer Posts »
